Hiring trades can be tough if you don’t know what to look for. Throughout the construction industry, experienced electricians can be hard to come by. If you’re [seeking a new electrician](https://www.staffccs.com/construction-staffing-agencies/) to add to your team, here are four traits they must have.  ### 1. Electrician Experience  Our recruiters often look for approximately five years of experience in either residential or commercial electrical work when seeking electricians. These professionals need to know how to read blueprints and execute what’s in front of them. Electricians also need to be able to plan routes and perform layouts, as well as run conduits and wire receptacles.   ### 2. Initiative  Electricians must be self-starters, able to work diligently without support or supervision when necessary. Often electricians have helpers or even supervisors, but the ability to work unassisted is something you will want to count on as you search for top electricians. You’ll also likely want to find someone that can work a 40 hour week and accommodate their own transportation.   ### 3. Adaptability   Hiring an electrician should include looking at how adaptable and prepared they are. An inflexible employee is often tough to work with. You need to recruit trades with fresh ideas and innovative experience that can help them stand out in the construction industry. Your electrician needs to be able to adjust their expectations and succeed in any setting. Depending on the job, you may need your electrician to supply their tool kit, as well.   ### 4. Rule-Follower  As you recruit potential candidates for an electrician gig, you want to set yourself up for success. This means you want to identify candidates that are, by nature, rule-followers. When your company’s reputation is on the line, you want to know that your employees do things by the book.
